During the 1950s and 60s, civil rights leader Whitney Young navigated a
divided society. He challenged America's white business and political
leaders directly, but his efforts to open the doors for equal
opportunity were often attacked by Black Americans who felt his methods
were in contrast with the Black Power Movement of the time.
A panel
discussion follows the film.
KEY COMPONENTS OF SUCCESSFUL SOCIAL MOVEMENTS

"For me, the most important lesson [of the Freedom Movement] is that by respecting the fact that fellow activists could passionately disagree over strategy and tactics—yet remain allies—they strengthened SNCC and the Movement as a whole." From Bruce Hartford's article in Urban Habitat.
